We are thrilled to have been involved with G2E Asia 2024, attending and engaging with professionals from the gaming industry. We have also greatly enjoyed the opportunity to lead panel discussions closing off day 3.
Our Managing Partner Rui Proença, kicked off the panels, which delved into Regulatory Updates and Growing Cross-Border Player Acquisition Risks. Joined by legal industry experts from across the APAC region, Tomohiro Takagi Nishimura & Asahi (Japan), Lau Kok Keng Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP, and Jaewoo Kwak Lee & Ko (Korea), as we delved into the ever-evolving regulatory landscape in markets such as Vietnam, the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand. Our discussions shed light on the potential impacts of market shifts and the importance of understanding regulatory requirements to capitalise on emerging opportunities.
Our second panel then looked closer into Asian regulated gaming markets and the challenges and opportunities they present. Joined by industry leaders Marie Antonette Quiogue, CEO / Principal, Arden Consult (Philippines), Lau Kok Keng, Partner, Head of Gaming Law Practice, Rajah & Tann (Singapore) and Long Gia Nguyen, Partner, Tilleke & Gibbins (Vietnam). We explored the dynamic nature of these markets and the need for gaming operators to adapt and comply with evolving regulatory frameworks. We also examined cross-border marketing risks and the intricacies of foreign players' acquisition, including fund flows and the collection of gaming debts.
To wrap up our panels, Daniela Guerreiro chaired the session focusing on the importance of robust data protection measures and regulations in the gaming sector. Joined alongside panellists Willie Vu Head of Enterprise and Partner Solutions Architecture, Amazon Web Services, Graça Saraiva, Legal Consultant & DPO (SCL), Partner (MGS), Sands China Ltd, MGS Consultancy Ltd and Derek Watterud Vice-President of Resort Technology, MGM - we explored the impact of emerging technologies such as AI and RFID chips on the gaming industry. Our discourse emphasised the importance of striking a balance between leveraging technological advancements and ensuring data security and privacy for players.
